Estimaciones de pólenes de gramíneas

 

The aerobiological, botanical and clinical results obtained to date appear to indicate, at least with respect to Madrid, that it is the plains grasses, producing small pollen (Trisetum paniceum), which are the most important causes of hay fever, and not the meadow (humid) cultivated grasses. These plains grasses, producing small pollen, appear to be directly influenced by the preseasonal humidity of the soil, and are therefore very sensitive to the wide annual variations in the autumn-winter rainfall; this, in turn, leads to wide year-to-year variations in the quantity of atmospheric seasonal grass pollen. Using the appropriate calculation based on the relative humidity of the preseasonal air, by the beginning of April we have been able to obtain a reasonably accurate estimation of the total seasonal atmospheric grass pollen. These data are useful in order to explain the wide annual variations in the atmospheric intensity of grass pollen which occur in Madrid; they should also help patients, doctors and pharmaceutical companies to prepare themselves better according to the estimated seasonal intensity.
